mindset - the replacement principle
April 11, 2021 | Matt Ware
There is no greater force to shape your life than your mind. Proverbs 23:7 says “As a man thinks, so is he.” And Craig Groeschel states: “your life is always moving in the direction of your strongest thoughts.” The life you have is a result of the thoughts you think … you can choose how you think! You are not a victim of your thought patterns; your mind can be renewed and your heart can be transformed. If you’ll change your mind, you can change your life! In this series, we’ll explore 4 key ideas to changing how we think. These concepts are inspired by the book “Winning the War in Your Mind” by Craig Groeschel.
The Replacement Principle
Mindset
Proverbs 23:7 (NKJV) For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.
Philippians 4:8-9 (NLT) Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
Romans 7:15, 19, 21-23 (NLT) I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate … 19 I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway … 21 I have discovered this principle of life—that when I want to do what is right, I inevitably do what is wrong. 22 I love God’s law with all my heart. 23 But there is another power within me that is at war with my mind.
John 8:44 (ESV) there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV) For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
1. Know the trick
Galatians 3:1 (NCV) you were foolish; you let someone trick you.
2 Corinthians 2:11 (NLT) Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes.
2. Know the truth
John 8:32 (ESV) you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Ephesians 6:17 (ESV) the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God
