FAITH looks at the life story of Abraham through the lens of his faith. Hebrews 11 says Abraham acted “by faith” 3 different times, and more is written in the faith chapter about him than any other person in the Bible. Join us this summer as we study the life, character, and faith of someone Romans 4:11 calls the “father of faith.”
Father of Faith
2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV) we walk by faith, not by sight.
Romans 4:11 (NLT) father of those who have faith
Hebrews 11:6 (ESV) without faith it is impossible to please him
1. Wherever God leads, follow
Genesis 12:1 (ESV) Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
2. Whenever God tests, trust
Genesis 22:1-2 (ESV) God tested Abraham and said to him … “Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”
Hebrews 11:17, 19 (NLT) It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him … Abraham reasoned that if Isaac died, God was able to bring him back to life again.
Job 13:15 (NKJV) Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.
3. Whatever God promises, believe
Genesis 15:5-6 (ESV) (God) brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 6 And he believed the Lord.
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
John 20:29 (ESV) blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
Romans 4:20-21 (ESV) (Abraham) did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.
James 2:23 (ESV) Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness—and he was called a friend of God.
