culture wars - faith
October 18, 2020 | Matt Ware
American Christians are increasingly conflicted as to what culture they identify with—the culture of the world or the culture of the Kingdom. After a 6 month hiatus from the regular gathering of the church, this clash of cultures is more evident now than ever. This series leads people toward a greater understanding of 6 key distinctives of the culture of God’s Kingdom and how to navigate the CULTURE WARS of 2020.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) God has not given us a spirit of fear
Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:2 (NLT) Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) without faith it is impossible to please Him.
Numbers 13:30-31 (ESV) Caleb quieted the people before Moses and said, “Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it.” 31 Then the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we are.”
1. Faith to SEE it
Joshua 14:10-12 (NKJV) And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the Lord spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. 11 As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me … 12 Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day … it may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.”
2. Faith to SEIZE it
Hebrews 11:33-34 (ESV) through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.
Romans 12:3 (NKJV) God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
